Stress and risk — Preferences versus noise

چکیده
Abstract We analyze the impact of acute stress on risky choice in a pre-registered laboratory experiment with 194 participants. test causal stability risk preferences by separating noise decision-making from an actual shift preferences. find no significant differences attitudes across conditions aggregate, using both descriptive analyses as well structural estimations for aversion and different structures. Additionally, line previous literature, we statistically evidence lower cognitive abilities being correlated more general. do not interaction effect between levels.

The Effects of Beliefs versus Risk Preferences on Bargaining Outcomes*
In bargaining environments with uncertain impasse outcomes (e.g., litigation or labor strike outcomes), there is an identification problem that confounds data interpretation. In such environments, the minimally acceptable settlement value from a risk-averse (risk-loving) but unbiased bargainer is empirically indistinguishable from what one could get with risk-neutrality and pessimism (optimism)...
متن کاملThe Noise/Stress Concept, Risk Assessment and Research Needs.
In principle, the noise/stress hypothesis is well understood: Noise activates the pituitary-adrenal-cortical axis and the sympathetic-adrenal-medullary axis. Changes in stress hormones including epinephrine, norepinephrine and cortisol are frequently found in acute and chronic noise experiments. The catecholamines and steroid hormones affect the organism's metabolism. Cardiovascular disorders a...
متن کاملNoise exposure and risk of hypertension: a cross-sectional study
Abstract Background: Previous studies have indicated an unspecific correlation between noise exposure and blood pressure disturbances. Blood pressure disturbances could be caused by the environmental hazards such as noise exposure. The aim of this study is to analyze whether there is a relationship between noise exposure and hypertension. Methods: Atotal sample of 218 workers workin...
متن کاملRisk Preferences, Time Preferences and Smoking Behaviour
There is a rich theoretical literature in economics which models habit-forming behaviours, of which addiction is the exemplar, but there is a paucity of experimental economic studies eliciting and comparing the preferences that economic theory suggests may differ between addicts and non-addicts. We evaluate an incentivecompatible risk and time preference experiment conducted on a sample of stud...
متن کاملRisk Pooling, Risk Preferences, and Social Networks
Using data from a field experiment conducted in seventy Colombian municipalities, we investigate who pools risk with whom when risk pooling arrangements are not formally enforced. We explore the roles played by risk attitudes and network connections both theoretically and empirically. We find that pairs of participants who share a bond of friendship or kinship are more likely to (1) join the sa...
